El 26 de Junio de 1984, Prince batía un record de ventas con el single "Purple Rain" del sexto álbum de "Prince & The Revolution", producido como banda sonora de la película del mismo nombre que la canción.
Esta pieza, una canción power ballad, que conjuga los estilos rock, pop y gospel, logró vender más de 1.3 millones de copias.
"Purple Rain" fue grabada en vivo en Minneapolis, en "First Avenue Club", donde debutó la guitarrista Wendy Melvion.
La canción es uno de los iconos de Prince, quien la interpretó en casi todos sus conciertos.
